How do I purchase plants from Woodleigh Nursery?

Woodleigh Nursery dispatches mail orders NZ wide. Sorry we are not able to ship plant orders outside of New Zealand. We like to make it as easy as possible to shop with us, so feel free to email us your order or phone if you prefer. We will confirm via email that the plants are available and give you a final cost which includes door-to-door delivery anywhere in NZ by courier. This is not a ‘Shopping Cart’ website. We like to have personalised contact with our customers.

Plants will be sent once payment is made unless other arrangements have been made. Alternatively, you are welcome to collect your plants from our nursery by appointment. Note our nursery is not open to the public.

The minimum information we need from you?

  • Name of plant/s and how many
  • Substitute plants should those you require be sold out (if applicable to you)
  • Your name, delivery address, phone, and email if available

Minimum order

We provide free handling and packaging for orders of $40 + freight or more. For orders less than $40 + freight a handling surcharge of $10 will be added.  To make up your order why not buy a plant for a friend, Hydrangeas do make lovely gifts.

Transport and freight

Freight varies according to where you live and the size of your order. Our minimum freight charge is for a box that will hold up to 6-8 plants (growth and weight dependant).

As a guide (prices are subject to change)

  • New Plymouth / Palmerston North area – minimum $13.
  • Remainder North Island – minimum $19.20.
  • South Island – minimum $20.00 (for up to 4 plants), $33.00 for 5 – 7 plants.
  • Rural delivery – an additional $9.50 / box is required. (Note: This does add an extra 2-3 days to delivery; also Courier Post will not accept liability for any damage that occurs)

These prices are a guide only, freight prices may increase. We will provide a quote for freight when we confirm your order by phone or email.

Payment options

  • Direct credit to our bank account: Account details will be supplied on confirmation of order.
  • Cheque: Cheques are no longer accepted.
  • Please make payment after you receive confirmation from us.

Packaging & Delivery

We use recycled cardboard cartons for packing orders, there is no charge for packaging and handling of our plants. We typically dispatch our orders on a Monday, however if the weather is extremely wet, we will delay sending, to avoid compromising the packaging. Once we have confirmed your payment, your order will be shipped to you the following Mon or Tuesday if wet.

How long will it take for my plants to arrive?

We despatch orders at the start of each week (this is so plants are not left sitting in a courier depot over the weekend). We use Aramex Couriers. They will deliver your plants direct to your door, or if you live in a rural area they will liaise with your rural mail contractor who will deliver your plants directly.

  • North Island orders typically arrive 1 – 2 days after despatch.
  • South Island orders typically take 3 – 4 days.

Plant arrival

We dispatch our plants throughout the year.

Plants dispatched through the growing months of spring and summer will be in full leaf and may also be in flower.  At this time of the year the plants water requirements are very high.  Please ensure they are given a good soak in a bucket of water until bubbles cease to rise (no longer than 5 mins) immediately upon receiving.

Plants dispatched through the winter months will typically be in a deciduous or semi-deciduous state with few or no leaves.  Their water requirements are low, however if dry when you receive them, please soak in a bucket as above.

Can Woodleigh send my plants at a later date?

That’s not a problem. When you make your order, please make a note of when you would like your plants delivered, ie hold until autumn rains arrive.

What happens if the plant I am after is out of stock or not available?

If a variety is ‘SOLD OUT’ please contact us as we are happy to forward order or provide advice on alternatives.

We do have new stock growing on all the time, and we do grow some varieties in small numbers that do not make the website / catalogue – please ask if you are after something in particular.

We are also happy to grow to order, to ensure numbers for your future project.

How big are the plants?

We dispatch strong plants for their container size, which we consider are good value for money. They are all grown in our own nursery and can be sent at any time of year. Most are grown in PB5 (3 litre) planter bags which are about 15cm high. We sometimes have plants available in small round or square pots (12 cm diameter) or larger round pots (22cm diameter).

Guarantee Policy

Woodleigh Nursery only dispatches plants that meet our high-quality standards and takes particular care when packing orders. All plants are believed to be correctly named and true to description, however no guarantee is given in this respect.

Should there be a problem, please contact us within 7 days of receipt of plants. We will ensure your satisfaction through either replacement or refund as necessary.
