Hydrangea macrophylla Altona
Altona is a very versatile plant which suit nearly everyone’s needs. It is a superb French blue mophead in acid soils, or a good pink in lime soil. It is very floriferous, is happy in sun or shade, and is one of the best varieties for windy or coastal gardens. It produces stunning autumn colours and is a very good cut flower. Forms an excellent hedge.

Ayesha is a totally unique hydrangea. The mophead flowers are very similar in appearance to a lilac, having cup-shaped individual florets. The large heads are either soft shell pink or light lilac blue depending on soil ph. It is lightly scented, very free-flowering and good for picking. Sun, wind and coastal tolerant.

A lovely white mophead, with glossy leaves making it ideal for coastal planting. The flowers are long lasting, aging light pink or antique green in shade. This is a vigorous plant with an informal, arching habit, that will grow to almost 2m in height. It is more cold hardy than many varieties, coastal hardy. Flowers can burn if exposed to hot mid-day sun.

Thought to be the wild form of H. macrophylla. The original wild plants were found growing by the coast, hence its name. The bold blue and white lacecap flowers are pleasantly scented and can be up to 30cm across. Will tolerate sun, shade, and wind including salt laden. Looks great planted in drifts under trees.
